Minutes from Public Meeting Traffic Study June 14, 2006, 6PM

Mayor Burgess called the meeting to order with the following Council Members present: David Terry, Anne Peppers and Angela Porter. Also present were City Manager Doug White and City Clerk Susan Roper. Traysa Price arrived at 6:30 PM.

Guests present were: Nancy Posner, Paul Posner, Don Garner, Rachel Peters, Sally Thornton, Bill Thornton, John Anchors, Kathryn Bloodworth, Marilyn Pitts, Sarah Alexander, Grady Lemmonds, Susan Stephens, Rebecca Thomas, Nancy Cocroft, Kelly Dally, Randy Conner, Sheilah Conner, Joy Howard, Johnny Howard, Jamie Peterson, Crenan Mills, Lynn McLendon, Harriett Nunnally, Lamar Blocker, ___________ Rowe, ______________ Rowe, Amy Scarbrough, Bet Davis, Clay Fallia, Hal Dally, Bettye Ray, Joe Johnston and Ginny Johnston.

Mayor Burgess led the pledge of allegiance.

Mayor Burgess explained to the citizens present that the Traffic Engineer had not arrived at the meeting and that we had not heard from her. He explained the project to everyone stating that the intention was to respond to a significant number of requests to relieve the traffic during school hours. Mayor Burgess using a map to illustrate pointed out alternatives: 1) Memorial Drive, 2) Wildwood Extension, and then opened a public hearing to give the citizens an opportunity to provide input.

City Manager Doug White read some statistics on traffic counts obtained during the study.

Frank Sherrill spoke to citizens about how Social Circle had changed since he became Mayor back in the 70’s.

Many other citizens offered input.
